About Our Program

Considering weight loss surgery is a major step towards a healthier and thinner you. As you learn more about bariatric surgery and talk to patients that have had surgery, you will see the many health and lifestyle benefits that surgery can help you achieve. However, these surgical procedures are not entirely without risk and only an experienced and dedicated team of professionals can ensure your lifelong success. The surgeons and staff at Advanced Laparoscopic Associates are committed to providing the highest quality of care possible. Our program has the largest laparoscopic weight loss surgery experience in New Jersey and was the first to perform Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass and LAP-BAND in the state.
Advanced Laparoscopic Associates is affiliated with Hackensack University Medical Center (www.HUMC.net) which is the leading hospital in the state of New Jersey.
The results that have been achieved at our program speak for themselves. We have been awarded the healthgrades.com “Excellence in Bariatric Surgery” award for both 2006 and 2007 and were ranked in the top 5% in the nation. We are a “Center of Excellence” for Bariatric Surgery by the American College of Surgeons. Each of the surgeons in this practice has been named a “TOP DOC” by various publications. Additionally recent news articles have spotlighted the commitment to quality and safety of our program:

A statewide report by the New Jersey health commissioner looking at all of the bariatric programs in the state also highlighted the quality of our program.
Our program consists of three distinct phases, pre-operation, operation, and post-operation.
1) Pre-Operation: Our goal before your operation is to educate you on weight loss surgery and its risks and benefits. We offer a free monthly education seminar that goes into detail about all aspects of surgery. You will be seen for a pre-operative consultation by the surgeon of your choice and you will be assigned a pre-certification coordinator who will guide you through the insurance approval process and the pre-operative medical clearance. If required, they will also help you obtain any other necessary evaluations such as psychological, dietary, cardiac, and pulmonary evaluations.
2) Operation: On the day of your operation you will meet the operating room team that will be with you throughout your operation. Each member of this team has taken care of the many patients that have come before you and is committed to your safety and comfort. At Hackensack University Medical Center, we have a dedicated ward for weight loss surgery patients. The nurses on this ward are very experienced in the care and unique requirements of the weight loss surgery patient. In fact, many of the nurses have had the surgery themselves and know first hand the experience you are going through.
3) Post-Operation: After your operation, Advanced Laparoscopic Associates offers a comprehensive program for care the rest of your life. During the first visit after your surgery you will be given an hour long teaching class covering the basics of life after surgery. Regularly scheduled visits thereafter will allow you to meet your surgeon and work with our registered dietitian who is free of charge. You will also meet our physician assistant. Hackensack University Medical Center also offers a Bariatric Rehab program that allows you to use the hospital exercise equipment under the supervision of a exercise physiologist. Support groups are held monthly at the hospital. Blood work will be done on a standardized schedule.
We hope that this brief introduction helps illustrate how our program is designed to provide you with lifelong quality care once you have made the decision to commit yourself to weight loss surgery. We invite you to attend one of our free monthly seminars and meet our staff, doctors, and former patients so that you can decide if our program is right for you.
